Do You Know Your Role in the Closing?

Do You Know Your Role in the Closing?

  • The most important lesson you can learn today is to take responsibility for the outcome of the closing!

While the closing process of a real estate transaction is not the most glamorous part of the process, it’s imperative that you know the role you need to play in the process in order for the deal to go through.

Do not rely on your real estate agent or the team of closing professionals to carry you across the finish line! As the seller in the transaction, there are a few key responsibilities you need to handle on your own.

  1. The first is to line up a moving company so that you are prepared to vacate the home on the day outlined in the closing paperwork. The date you turn over the keys to the new owner is not a flexible timeline, so you need to make sure you will be ready to move out and have the home ready in time.
  2. The other expectation on the seller is that the home will be professionally cleaned before it is turned over to the new buyer. Make sure to line up a high quality cleaning crew after your move out is complete to ensure you meet this expectation. A buyer is spending a lot of money to purchase your home, and you want to turn the house over to them feeling as fresh and clean as possible.

If you have questions or feel unsure about a certain aspect of the closing, do not be afraid to ask questions! It’s far better to ask questions and clarify any confusion before you get to the closing date.
