Are you ready for some of the biggest events of the year in the Valley? In the next month, visitors will descend upon Scottsdale to attend the Barrett Jackson Car Auction and 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open. Both of these events are major tourism drivers for the city, but they are also beloved events that locals love to attend as well!
The beginning of the year in Scottsdale usually means blue skies, great hiking weather, and mild temperatures, making it a fantastic time for out of town visitors to enjoy these awesome events while also exploring the city. If you have never attended any of these events, make it a point to go this year, as you will be in for a treat!
Barrett Jackson Car Auction
The Barrett Jackson Car Auction always takes place at the mega event center Westworld in Scottsdale, which is located right off of Pima Road. The auction will take place from January 22nd-January 30th this year. To make this year even more special, Barrett-Jackson is celebrating their 50th anniversary! You can find the schedule of events on their website to pick out which day you want to attend.
It’s Family Day on the opening day of the event, Saturday, January 22, and there is free admission for anyone 12 and under. There will be a 50th Anniversary Opening Ceremony to mark the occasion, with the City of Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega officially declaring January 22 as “Barrett-Jackson Collection Car Auction Month!” Throughout the rest of the auction’s time in WestWorld, there are different exhibits, live music, thrill rides, and so many other fun activities. No matter which day you attend you are sure to see some amazing collector cars.
Waste Management Phoenix Open
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is a professional golf tournament that is part of the PGA tour, with the motto “The Greatest Show On Grass.”
The WM Phoenix Open is hosted every year at the TPC Scottsdale golf course and has become quite the annual event for the city. It is one of the most well attended golf tournaments in the world, with over 700,000 fans attending in 2019.
People descend upon the Valley for the tournament to watch great golf, enjoy the live concerts hosted as part of the tournament, and to have fun with friends in the sun. The tournament has a reputation as being one of the most lively events on the PGA tour. In 2022, the tournament is scheduled to take place the week of February 7th through February 13th.
On Monday and Tuesday of the event, general admission tickets are free! On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, general admission tickets for a single daily ticket pass cost $50. To attend on Friday or Saturday costs $75 for a general admission ticket. If you are passionate about golf and don’t want to miss out on any of the action, you can opt for the $750 weekly sponsor package, which comes with 4 sponsor badges that are good for the entire week, along with a reserved parking pass.
As part of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, there is always an awesome concert series after the golfing is done for the day at the Coors Light Birds Nest. Each year a large concert tent is erected on the tournament grounds so that the fun can continue after dark!
This year they’ve got a great line up for the whole week. On Wednesday, February 9th you can see Diplo and Cole Swindell, Thursday is a sold out show for Sam Hunt, Friday is Macklemore, and on Saturday VIP tickets are still available to see Kygo! The concert series is always an awesome time and there is food and beverages for sale during the shows. The headliners take the stage around 8:30 pm each night, but the gates open at 3:30 pm, so you can arrive early and claim a great spot in the general admission area!
The Arizona Wine Festival at Heritage Square
Does anything sound more fun than a weekend wine festival? Wilcox Wine Country is hosting the Arizona Wine Festival this month over the weekend of January 28th-30th at Heritage Square Park in downtown Phoenix. All of the wine available at the event will be supplied from 20 different Arizona wineries, with over 150 varieties available to try. While you sip your wine you can enjoy live music, food trucks, and other local artisan vendors.
Arizona wine lovers should note that this is the largest wine festival in the state and is your best opportunity to try wine from vineyards that you typically won’t find in Phoenix. Some of the participating vineyards include Carlson Creek Vineyard, 1764 Vineyards, Page Springs Vineyard, and Sonoita Vineyards. You can find a full list of the participating vineyards on the Wilcox Wine Country website, but they expect to have more wineries join in over the next few weeks!
Presale tickets start at $30 and include ten tasting tickets and a commemorative wine glass. and the wine tasting is open from 11 am to 7 pm on the 29th, and from 11 am to 5 pm on the 30th.
Scottsdale Mimosa Bar Crawl in Old Town
For the mimosa lovers, you have an opportunity to showcase your love of the daytime cocktail by participating in the Scottsdale Mimosa Bar Crawl. Block your calendar for Saturday, January 29th from 10 am to 4 pm to take full advantage of the full mimosa crawl scene.
The $20 tickets to this event include admission to all the bars participating in this event in Old Town! With your ticket you will get three mimosa vouchers to use on the crawl route, in addition to exclusive drink specials at some of the bars along the stop.
