Arizona has picked up on this trend in a big way, with many incredible brewpubs and breweries opening in all corners of the state. With the hot and dry summer months rolling in, a perfect way to spend a summer evening is enjoying an ice cold beer with friends. Bookmark this list the next time you are in search of Arizona’s best brews!
Superstition Meadery
Arizonians are lucky that they don’t have to travel very far to experience amazing beers. Superstition Meadery is a craft mead maker based out of Prescott, Arizona that earned a spot on Rate Beer’s list of the best breweries in the world. If you aren’t familiar with mead, it’s a fermented beverage made from honey that can vary in alcohol content and sweetness, and it has a unique flavor that everyone should experience at least once!
Superstition Meadery’s original mission was to reintroduce the world’s oldest fermented beverage to mankind, and since 2012 when they originally opened, they have been delivering on that promise at their two locations in Prescott and Phoenix.
Their cozy Prescott tasting room is located in the historic courthouse square, making it a convenient spot to stop while in town. Superstition Meadery’s most popular offering is their $26 mead and cedar flight sampling, which can be paired with their perfectly curated tapas menu that includes charcuterie, cheese, and flatbreads.
Something to know before you go is that the Phoenix location has a dog-friendly patio, so you are welcome to bring your pup! It also has a much more expansive menu than the Prescott tasting room, so you can go hungry and order a full dinner to try their bao buns and unique entrees.
Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company
Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company is located in Gilbert, Arizona and also has been featured on Rate Beer’s list of best breweries in the world. Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company is famous for using native Arizona ingredients in their beverages and cuisine, which really adds an original flair to their offerings.
Another reason Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company really stands out is their commitment to sustainability. They work with Arizona farmers to source local ingredients, minimize the amount of waste they send to landfills, and preserve millions of gallons of water through their This Beer Saves Water campaign.
Arizona Wilderness Brewery also comes out with annual new ale releases one time each season, and these hot commodity brews don’t stay in stock long. In addition to their main Gilbert location, they also have a second spot in Downtown Phoenix that features a beer garden with an awesome ambiance.
Angel’s Trumpet Ale House
Angel’s Trumpet Ale House is another acclaimed spot for beer, located in Downtown Phoenix right off of the light rail. This laidback and dog-friendly spot is known for having an awesome range of beer varieties, with microbrews you won’t find anywhere else.
Angels Trumpet Ale House hosts special events throughout the week to keep things fun, like TV Dinner every Tuesday starting at 6 pm, where you can get a tray dinner for $11 and watch primetime tv with the community!
They also host Sunday Funday, where you can get a $9 pitcher of beer when you visit any time on Sundays. If it is your first time at Angel’s Trumpet Ale House, try their flight option which includes six beer samples for $10.
Oak Creek Brewing Company
Sedona is also home to one of the state’s award winning breweries, Oak Creek Brewing Company. Oak Creek is known for being the only combination production craft brewery and brewpub in the city of Sedona. It has a rich 25 year history, offering a wide variety of great beers, with everything from a light Hefeweizen to strong Ales. It’s a great spot to stop and relax after finishing a long bike ride or hike around Sedona’s red rock country. The brew house is located right next to their outdoor beer garden, so you can get a peek at their process while you enjoy your pint!
Keeping with the brewpub theme, they offer “hoppy hour” every day from 4 pm-7 pm, where you can drop in to Oak Creek Brewing Co. to try a pint for $4.75, or enjoy a pitcher of beer for $15.50. Not only are these prices pretty much unbeatable, but you know you are experiencing the finest brews Sedona has to offer.
If you visit Oak Creek often and love what you taste, you can join their Brewmasters Mug Club for $65 a year, which earns you discounted beverages, a commemorative plaque at the brewery, and an Oak Creek Brew hat or t-shirt.
San Tan Brewing Company
SanTan Brewery is a large tap house with pub food and an awesome selection of beers brewed in-house. It’s located in downtown Chandler, and the brews are so popular they have also opened a second outpost in Terminal 3 at Sky Harbor Airport, so you can get your fix of SanTan beer on your way in or out of Phoenix!
SanTan Brewery has been open since 2007 and along the way has gained the reputation as being one of Arizona’s best craft breweries. If you are in downtown Chandler, stop by to try one of their beer flights and brewhouse nachos. One thing that sets SanTan apart from some other local breweries is their late night menu, which is available every day from 9 pm until they close. The late night menu is filled with tasty offerings like pub style wings and pizzas, perfect for those late night cravings.
This is a great casual spot to meet up with friends and enjoy some of the live events San Tan hosts each month. Coming up in June, they are hosting Psychedelic Sundays with the Scott Hallock Duo, a group playing live music in the style of Tom Petty and The Beatles. This ongoing concert series will take place every Sunday from 2 pm – 5 pm, making it the perfect way to end your weekend!
Lumberyard Brewing Company
Lumberyard Brewing Company has been a local favorite in Flagstaff for the last twelve years, thanks in part to its large food menu, fun patio, and drink specials. You definitely get that local Flagstaff flair from this brewery, which has the motto “It’s not about the attitude, it’s all about the altitude.”
This brewing spot is located downtown, right on the site of an old lumberyard, which was the inspiration for the brewing company’s name. The owners rehabilitated a historic building to transform it into the whimsical space you see today!
The best time to go is Monday through Friday for happy hour, which takes place from 3 pm to 6 pm. During happy hour they serve $5 pints and yard jars for $9.50. When it comes time to order, try out something from their barbeque menu which is known as their specialty!
Whether you are an avid beer lover or you are new to the brewery scene, all of these destinations around the state offer a best in class brewery experience that everyone is sure to love. The fun part about all of these breweries is that you get to support local businesses while trying out truly unique beers you won’t find anywhere else!
