Best Ways to Beat the Heat This August

Best Ways to Beat the Heat This August

By the time August rolls around in Scottsdale, it is easy to start burning out on your typical summertime activities. While there might still be a few more months of warm weather ahead, the good news is that there are still plenty of creative and fun events happening around the Valley to fill your free time. We have the details on some of the best events happening this month!

Sonoran Sippin’ at the Desert Botanical Garden

Every night until September 10th you can finish your day out at the Desert Botanical Garden with their Sonoran Sippin’ event. It costs $14.95 for adults to attend, and this event takes place every day from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. It is a great way to enjoy the sunset and some of the cooler hours of the day in one of the most scenic spots in the Valley!

Upon arriving, you will be offered a welcome cocktail that you can then sip as you stroll through the desert botanical gardens. During the Sonoran Sippin’ event there will also be live musical performances and DJs on different nights to really set a festive atmosphere. This would be a great place to enjoy a happy hour with friends after work!

Bubbles + Bruschetta on Monday Nights at Kelly’s At Southbridge

Calling all fans of The Bachelorette! If you have been loving watching this season of The Bachelorette and are looking for a fun place to watch with other devoted fans, go to Kelly’s At Southbridge on Monday nights moving forward.

Every Monday night from 7 pm to 9 pm, Kelly’s in Old Town Scottsdale turns their TVs to ABC and watches the drama unfold on the big screen together. If you have a large group of friends who already enjoy watching the show together, you can reserve one of the private rooms in advance to accommodate your whole party.

They also offer a special “bubbles + bruschetta” deal while the show is on, which includes a complimentary $20 bottle of wine when you purchase a bruschetta board. It’s the perfect way to meet new people with similar interests, enjoy good food, and beat the heat.

See a Play at Desert Stages Theater

The best place to be on a really hot day in Scottsdale is somewhere indoors with good air conditioning – like the Desert Stages Theater! They have three showings of the play A Chorus Line over the weekend of August 7th and 8th, at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm each day.

This is a great way to support artists in the community and see a one-of-a-kind local production of A Chorus Line. The Desert Stages Theatre says: “This is the story of the unsung heroes of the American Musical Theatre- the chorus dancers- those valiant, over dedicated, unpaid, highly trained performers who back up the stars.”

If you miss that play this upcoming weekend, they have a robust calendar of events for the next few months. They will be performing Madagascar Jr., a great play to take your kids to see at the end of August.

Slide The Rails at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

With back to school season right around the corner, you may be looking for a festive way to celebrate the last few days or weeks of summer break with your kids. This Saturday, August 4th, the McCormick Ranch Railroad Park is hosting the perfect event for this!

The Slide the Rails event takes place from 8:00 am-1:00 pm, and costs $10 a person for a wristband that gives you unlimited access to the water attractions, railroad train, and carousel rides. Children that are two and under can attend for free as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

In addition to the usual attractions the railroad park offers, there will be inflatable water slides, obstacles courses, and a bubble foam pit! Slide the Rails is an event where kids of all ages are guaranteed to have fun. Finish off the outing with an ice cream to toast to the end of another great summer break!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 21 for an event that only happens once a year- the Scottsdale Sangria Fest! It is taking place this year at Wasted Grain from 1:00 pm -5:00 pm on August 21st.

The admission tickets to this event cost $25 a person, and includes 12 sangria tastings per person. With that many options you are bound to find a new favorite flavor combination! Gather up all your friends and plan a fun dinner in Old Town following the sangria taste testing to make it a full day out!

Attend the Swim Meet at the Saguaro Resort

If your ideal weekend includes sun bathing, pool time, and listening to fun music, you need to plan a Saturday outing to attend Swim Meet, the poolside party at The Saguaro resort.

The Saguaro resort turns their pool into the pool party destination of the summer from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm every Saturday during the month of August. In order to secure a spot, you must book a daybed or cabana during that time. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a resort pool experience without having to pay for a hotel room.

In addition to the fun poolside setting, they will have a local DJ spinning tunes each weekend. There will be signature cocktails and lots of food and drink specials as well. This is the perfect way to celebrate the last true month of summer!

Check Out the Latest Exhibits At the Phoenix Art Museum

The wonderful thing about the Phoenix Art Museum is that the exhibits are always changing, which provides a unique experience every time you visit. Starting August 7th – September 26, in the Steele Gallery you will find a new exhibit called Fearless Fashion: Rudi Genreich

Plan a visit to soak in some beautiful artwork and see this new exhibit, which includes a collection of over 80 sketches, letters, and personal documents from Rudi Genreich. Perfect for the fashion lovers, Rudi’s work gives insight into the designer’s life and how his work influenced fashion trends in the last fifty years.

Don’t let the summer blues get you down this month! Scottsdale’s event calendar for August is just as lively as ever with lots of happy hours, activities, and ways to get out and be active in the community. We know all of these events are going to be a blast!
